How To Start Facebook Advertising In Five Steps

Are you looking for an easy way to get more exposure, sales, and visitors to your Shopify store? Facebook ads are one of the fastest and most affordable ways to get started.

Promoting your Shopify store on Facebook requires a little work up front, but it’s worth the effort. Read on to learn how you can use Facebook ads to promote your store.

Set Up A Meta Business Suite
Facebook offers store owners the Meta Business Suite, formerly Facebook Business Manager, where you can find your Facebook Ad account, business pages, and access to their creator tools. To set up your Meta Business Suite, click here and create a business account.

You will need to provide your business name, Facebook store page, and contact information. Then you can set up your advertising account in a few simple steps where you will have access to everything you need to start creating ad campaigns.

Add Facebook Pixel To Your Store Page
Facebook Pixel is a tiny snippet of code that you can place on your website, in an email newsletter, or on an ad. Once in place, it will send information back to Facebook about the visitor who interacted with it, allowing you to serve ads based on their actions and learn from customer behavior.

Facebook Pixel is a code that helps you track and optimize your Facebook ads. It's a tool that allows you to track conversions from Facebook ads to understand advertisement efficacy and traffic to your website. Once Pixel is in place, you can track everything your customer does on your site and better gauge how much traffic Facebook is driving.

Create a Facebook Group
Social media platforms like Facebook serve as an excellent outlet to promote and market your Shopify store. A Facebook group is a closed community of people who share common interests or goals.

The first step to creating Facebook group is choosing what type of group you want to have: public and private. Public groups allow anyone to join the group without approval from the owner or administrator. Private groups require owners' or administrators' approval before someone can join and decide who can post content in the group using moderation tools.

When you create and name your group, include keywords related to your products or brand to help visitors find your store easier in search engines.

These groups are perfect for posting updates about new products and discounts, sharing customer testimonials with other group members, and engaging customers with questions about their shopping habits. This kind of social media helps promote engagement and builds data about your customers that you can later use to tailor your business to their needs.

Set Up Your Goals
Before we start creating Facebook ads, you need to know what you want from your campaign. Generally, there are three main types of campaigns:

  • Brand Awareness Campaigns: These campaigns aim to raise awareness about a brand or product without driving direct sales or conversions.
  • Drive Traffic Campaigns: These campaigns aim to drive traffic from Facebook users directly to your website or store page — often through calls-to-action like "Learn More," "Shop Now" and similar phrases.
  • Conversion Campaigns: These campaigns aim to drive users from the Facebook newsfeed or website directly onto your order form or checkout page using conversion-focused copy such as "Buy Now" and "Limited Stock."

Create Your Facebook Ad Campaign
To start your ad campaign, go to Ads Manager and click "Create Ad" on the left-hand side of the screen. Start by entering information about your target audience, like location & demographics. Then detail your budget and what type of ad content you'd like to use, like text, images, or video.

Before making your ad, make sure your campaign aligns with your goals, and you choose a metric to track its effectiveness. Facebook provides six different ad types you can create within Facebook ads.

  • Automated ads: Facebook will test different ad versions and adjusts them to see which performs best.
  • Attract visitors: When you’re focusing on increasing website traffic.
  • Boost a post: When you want to promote organic content.
Get more Messages: Encourage more clicks in Messenger ads.
  • Promote your Page: Simple ads that promote your Facebook Business Page.
  • Get more leads: For collecting contact info from people on Facebook.

Facebook charges you per impression or the number of people who see the ad, so you need to track the effectiveness of your campaign to make it more cost-efficient. You can measure your campaigns through conversion rates, likes, traffic, and sales and trace which customers are coming from Facebook.
